Beirut Seminar Emphasises Peacebuilding Role of Civil Society Organisations

Al Quds Centre for Political Studies (QCPS) organised a workshop in the Lebanese capital on how to enhance the role of Arab civil society organisations in peacebuilding and conflict resolution efforts.
As the region is plagued by wars, and conflicts, as well as ideological, sectarian, and religious divide, the seminar explored means to empower civil society activists to defuse tensions and polarisation, initiate mediation efforts, and fight growing despotism and radicalism in the Arab world.
In a bid to come up with a roadmap for civil society organisations, the participants, including 30 experts and activists, discussed experiments of civil society in Yemen, Tunisia, Morocco, Jordan, Palestine, Lebanon, Iraq, and Syria, drawing lessons from success stories and failure.
